How to Link Instagram to Your Facebook Business Page for Ads (2026)
guides meta
You have a Facebook Business Page. You have an Instagram account. Now you want to run ads on Instagram. But when you try to create a campaign, Instagram isn’t showing as an option — or worse, it’s showing someone else’s Instagram account.
The fix is straightforward: you need to properly link your Instagram account to your Facebook Business Page. This guide walks through exactly how to do that, plus the common issues that trip people up.
Why You Need to Connect Instagram to Your Facebook Page
Meta’s advertising system runs through Facebook Pages. When you create an ad that appears on Instagram, it’s technically being run by your Facebook Page.
Without connecting your Instagram account, you can still run ads on Instagram placements — but they’ll show your Facebook Page name instead of your Instagram handle. That looks weird and confuses potential followers.
When properly connected, your Instagram ads show:
- Your Instagram username
- Your Instagram profile picture
- A working link to your Instagram profile
Plus, connecting Instagram unlocks:
- Managing Instagram DMs through Meta Business Suite
- Unified analytics across both platforms
- Cross-posting content from one interface
- Using Instagram Shopping features
What You Need Before Starting
A Facebook Business Page Your Instagram connects to a Page, not to your personal Facebook profile. If you don’t have a Page yet, check our guide on how to create a Facebook Business Page.
Admin Access to the Page You need to be an admin of the Facebook Page you’re connecting to. If someone else owns the Page, they’ll need to either do this connection themselves or make you an admin.
An Instagram Professional Account Your Instagram account should be set to Professional (Business or Creator). Personal accounts can connect too, but you’ll get fewer features. We’ll cover how to switch to Professional if needed.
Access to the Email/Phone on Your Instagram Account Instagram will send a confirmation code during the linking process.
Step-by-Step: Connecting Instagram to Your Facebook Page
There are two ways to do this — through Meta Business Suite or through the Instagram app. I’ll cover both.
Method 1: Through Meta Business Suite (Recommended)
This is the cleaner approach if you’re managing business assets.
Step 1 — Open Meta Business Suite
Go to business.facebook.com and make sure you’re viewing the correct Page. You should see your Page name in the left sidebar or top navigation.
Step 2 — Go to Settings
Click on Settings in the left menu. Then find Linked Accounts or Instagram Account in the settings options.
Step 3 — Click “Connect Account”
You’ll see an option to connect an Instagram account. Click Connect Account or Add Instagram Account.
Step 4 — Log Into Instagram
A popup will appear asking you to log into Instagram. Enter your Instagram username and password.
If you’re already logged into Instagram in your browser, it might just ask you to confirm.
Step 5 — Confirm the Connection
Instagram will show you what the connection allows:
- Your Facebook Page can manage your Instagram messages
- Your Instagram profile info is shared with the Page
- The Page can create ads using your Instagram account
Review and click Confirm or Connect.
Step 6 — Verify with a Code (If Prompted)
Instagram may send a verification code to your email or phone. Enter it to complete the connection.
That’s it. Your Instagram account is now connected to your Facebook Page.
Method 2: Through the Instagram App
If you prefer doing this on mobile, here’s how.
Step 1 — Open Instagram Settings
Open the Instagram app and go to your profile. Tap the hamburger menu (three lines) in the top right, then tap Settings and Privacy.
Step 2 — Find Account Center
Scroll down and tap Accounts Center (or it might be labeled Meta Accounts Center). This is where Meta manages cross-platform connections.
Step 3 — Add Facebook Account
In Accounts Center, look for Accounts or Add Accounts. Tap to add your Facebook account if it’s not already connected.
You’ll need to log into Facebook to link the accounts at the identity level.
Step 4 — Connect to Your Page
Once your Facebook account is linked, go to your Instagram Professional Dashboard or Settings → Business → Connected Facebook Page.
Select the Facebook Page you want to connect to. If you manage multiple Pages, choose the right one.
Step 5 — Confirm Permissions
Review what the connection allows and confirm.
Switching to an Instagram Professional Account
If your Instagram account is personal, you’ll want to switch to Professional. Here’s how:
- Open Instagram → Profile → Settings and Privacy
- Tap Account Type and Tools (or Switch to Professional Account)
- Choose Business or Creator
- Business: best for brands, shops, companies
- Creator: best for influencers, public figures, artists
- Select a category that describes what you do
- Confirm your contact info
- Connect to your Facebook Page (you can do this here or later)
Switching to Professional is free and reversible. You lose nothing — you just gain access to insights, contact buttons, and ad features.
Verifying the Connection
After connecting, confirm everything is set up correctly:
In Meta Business Suite: Go to Settings → Linked Accounts. Your Instagram should appear with a “Connected” status.
In Ads Manager: Create a new ad (or edit a draft). In the ad preview section, you should see your Instagram handle and profile picture as an option for Instagram placements.
On Instagram: Go to Settings → Business → Connected Facebook Page. Your Page should be listed.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
“I don’t see my Instagram account as an option”
Possible causes:
- Your Instagram is still connected to a different Facebook Page. Disconnect it first, then reconnect.
- You’re not logged into the right Facebook account in Business Suite.
- Your Instagram is set to Personal — switch to Professional.
“It says my Instagram is already connected to another Page”
An Instagram account can only connect to one Facebook Page at a time. You’ll need to disconnect it from the other Page first.
To disconnect:
- On Instagram: Settings → Business → Connected Facebook Page → Disconnect
- Or in the old Page’s settings: Settings → Instagram → Remove
Then try connecting again.
“I connected but my ads still show my Page name, not my Instagram”
Check your ad settings. When creating an ad, there’s usually an option for “Instagram Account” in the identity section. Make sure your connected Instagram is selected there, not just the Facebook Page.
“The connection keeps failing”
Try these fixes:
- Log out of Instagram and Facebook everywhere, then log back in
- Make sure two-factor authentication isn’t blocking the connection
- Clear your browser cache if using Business Suite
- Try the Instagram app method instead of the browser
What You Can Do After Connecting
Once your Instagram is linked to your Page:
Run Instagram Ads Properly Your ads will display your Instagram identity, making them look native to the platform.
Manage Messages in One Place Facebook Messenger and Instagram DMs appear in a single inbox in Meta Business Suite. No more switching between apps.
See Unified Insights View performance data for both platforms in Business Suite’s analytics section.
Use Instagram Shopping If you sell products, you can set up Instagram Shopping through your connected Facebook Page and catalog.
Cross-Post Content Schedule and publish posts to both Facebook and Instagram from Business Suite.
